I’m a senior software engineer at Emory University Libraries. That means mostly I write web software in Python for accessing our Fedora repository, though my interests expand out pretty broadly from there. I’m a polyglot both in computer and human languages, and I have a special interest in the Web, from protocols all the way up to data representation. All together that means I geek out over things from Unicode to XML and RDF information design to software internationalization to gritty details of DNS, HTTP, and SSL. At heart, though, I’m a humanist: I’m taking undergrad courses toward a degree in what will probably end up as classics and religion. That means that the technologies are most interesting not for their own sake, but for what they let us accomplish.
