Bring your sketches of web design ideas you have and we can learn together about how to apply best practices to your design.
In addition to my own experience-based knowledge as a full-time web developer, we’ll also rely on other un-conference participants’ experiential knowledge and on themes from 2 EXCELLENT meta books about web design:
- Designing with the Mind in Mind: Simple Guide to Understanding User Interface Design Rules by Jeff Johnson
- Neuro Web Design: What Makes Them Click? by Susan M. Weinschenk
As my drupal 7 theming proposal was a bit too specific, I’m taking Brian’s advice and proposing this session, instead. 🙂

I worry that, at this point, I have nearly voted for everything I have seen, but that’s because reading the session proposals has been like going to a huge book sale where all the books are both good and free: I want them all.
An introduction to web design would be helpful for me as I am new to the DH community and new to teaching the construction of web texts as arguments. Additionally I have a research project of my own (see my proposal), that needs an infusion of design experience. I know what I want this tool to DO, but I know that how it LOOKS is an essential ingredient that I don’t have enough background yet to answer well.

Sorry to add on but . . . I also have a brand new interest in how Drupal works, so talking in a session or outside of one about the most essential things for a new Drupal user to know would also be helpful for me. Don’t drop Drupal all the way from your session!

Perhaps this could be a joint session that also talks about accessibility, writing for the web, and instructional design, as other people have proposed…with some drops of drupal, as well.
It could be one big web design brain-storm!
What do y’all think?

These things are definitely related. However, would combining them thin out the foundational design principles inherent in your original proposal? My understanding, which might be very green, is that site design instruction/tips in drupal will be very unique, while “principles of good web design” is something more generally applicable. Both seem helpful to me, separately, perhaps in different sessions. Perhaps my definition of “design” is too aesthetic and not technical enough.
